Dr. David J. Heath
Professional Biography
Dr. Heath grew up in northern California and went to undergraduate school at California State University . He majored in biology and minored in chemistry and American Sign Language. He completed 4 years of podiatric medical school at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where he received his Masters degree in biomedical science and a degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in 2002 .
Dr. Heath's first year of residency was in primary podiatric medicine at Plantation General Hospital in Florida. There he took podiatric emergency call in the adult and pediatric emergency rooms and rotated through many different medical specialties .
During his 2nd year of residency he traveled back to California to complete an additional year of training in podiatric surgery at the Medpremises Surgery Center and Veteran's Administration Hospital in San Diego (PSR-12) . During this year, he specialized in forefoot surgery and diabetic foot disorders. In addition, he dedicated approximately one weekend per month traveling to Mexicali, Mexico to assist in clinic and surgery at the Baja Crippled Children's project.
Dr. Heath finished his 3rd and 4th years of residency in podiatric surgery at Mercy Hospital in Miami (PM&S-36) . At Mercy Hospital he focused on surgery of the rearfoot, ankle, and lower leg. He also had extensive training in podopediatrics (children's feet) and sports medicine. He made additional trips to Mexico to assist in the Yucatan Project for Crippled Children which was sponsored by Barry University. In his final year of residency, Dr. Heath traveled to Russia to complete a six week fellowship in traumatology and orthopedics using external fixation frames. The doctors at the Ilizarov institution in Russia were the first to master this technique.
Dr. Heath graduated from his 4th year of residency in June of 2006. He has opened a private practice in Cooper City and Pembroke Pines , Florida. He is currently on staff at the Hospitals of Memorial West, Memorial Pembroke, Memorial Miramar and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
Dr. Heath treats all ages from childhood to seniors . His emphasis is in sports medicine, reconstructive surgery of the foot, ankle, and lower leg, diabetic care, and pediatric foot problems.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Heath enjoys spending time with his wife, Lily and one year old son named Matthew.
